Understanding DMC
Pricing
The four most common approaches to DMC pricing are Cost Plus, Packaged, Menu
Based, and Fee Based. How do they differ and is one better for you than any
other? At the recent Global Events Partners Executive Summit in New Orleans,
Rhonda Marko, CMP, CMM, DMCP, president and CEO, Destination Nashville,
presented the pros and cons of each method during a panel discussion. Response
from the audience was lively and involved. When put to a vote, the meeting
planners in the audience chose "Menu" as their preferred form while
the DMC operators selected "Packaged."
Here is a comprehensive
guide to each DMC pricing method as presented by Rhonda, to help
demystify the process for you, plus a few words about the value of DMC services.

Why Dubai?
The airline is rated among the best in the world. They claim the only seven-star
hotel in existence. Plans on the drawing board sound like something from a
George Lucas movie. Their population encompasses 82% ex-pats, so there’s
someone from everywhere there. They are proud of their Arab tradition but offer
freedom of dress, habits, and faith to all. You can eat, drink, and be merry in
Dubai while experiencing a place like no other.
At a recent Global Events Partners Executive Summit, Zaki Badawi, director of
business development, Gulf Dunes LLC, regaled the audience with superlatives
about Dubai as he worked to dispel myths about the wealthy United Arab Emirates
metropolis on the Arabian Gulf. Here are fascinating
facts and scores of good reasons to consider Dubai starting with ... an
indoor ski resort!

Question of the Month: What
Pricing Method Do You Prefer?
Two sessions dealing with pricing inspired the greatest reaction and involvement
from the audience at the GEP Executive Summit in New Orleans this summer (see Understanding
DMC Pricing story). Do you agree with the planners at the Summit that
you’d like DMCs to present you with the menu approach to pricing? Some argue
menu based makes it clearer what you are getting. While others say the packaged
approach makes the best use of your budget. Which method do you find most
beneficial to you? Select
your favorite from the list in our poll and we’ll report the top
choice next month.
Last month's poll results: Plenty of Event Inside readers have managed
to hold meetings in Europe in the past year, in spite of the challenges of the
dollar versus Euro difference. And, Italy was the top choice. Unfortunately, we
had a bit of redundancy in our choices with “None of the Above” and
“Other” being the same answer for those who held meetings abroad but not in
the countries we listed. But they did get lots of votes while Australia and
Japan got none. Here are the results:
Have you conducted a meeting in any of the following countries in the past
year?
- Italy 14%
- Spain 11%
- France 8%
- Turkey 8%
- United Kingdom 8%
- The Netherlands 5%
- Austria 2%
- Germany 2%
- Japan 0%
- Australia 0%
- Other 17%
- None of the above 17%

DMC Atlanta Arrangements coordinates largest-ever seated dinner in Centennial
Olympic Park
Atlanta Arrangements Inc., the city's leading destination management company,
recently coordinated several events for Herbalife in celebration of the
weight-management, nutritional supplement and personal care company's silver
anniversary. Over 35,000 Herbalife Independent Distributors from all over the
world came to downtown Atlanta in April for a week-long meeting and celebration.
Two special events in Centennial Olympic Park coordinated by Atlanta

seated dinner outdoors around the park's fountain of rings for 1,850 guests (the
day before the event the guest count went from 1,000 to 1,850). This marked the
first time a seated dinner of that size was held in Centennial Olympic Park. The
evening ended with a dramatic fireworks display.

Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course to host PGA championship in 2012
The PGA of America has selected the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort as
the site of the 94th PGA Championship in August 2012. As a result, the Pete
Dye-designed oceanfront layout will become only the fourth course to host each
of The PGA of America's major championships – the Ryder Cup (1991), the Senior
PGA Championship (2007) and the PGA Championship (2012).
A par-72, the course is designed from a ribbon of pristine sand dunes stretching
nearly three miles along the Atlantic Ocean at the eastern end of Kiawah Island.
It is reminiscent of the great seaside links of England and Scotland. The resort
also includes The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island – a spectacular new 255-room
oceanfront hotel and spa, the number one ranked tennis program in the country,
and a plethora of dining and recreational opportunities.
