From the Field: Hotel Palomar. Dallas, Texas
The Palomar Difference.
Offering pet beds, dishes, treats, and a walking service (or
a goldfish roommate) from day one distinguishes the Hotel
Palomar from many luxury lodging choices. To include among its
publicity photos a picture of an elegantly decorated room
complete with blue jeans thrown onto the couch and shoes
scattered on the floor tells you this place has a sense of
itself. After all rooms are to be lived in. And live in them
you can with choices that include sunken tubs, extra long beds,
pilates and yoga tapes with mats, high-speed wired and Wi-Fi
connections, and 32 inch flat screen TVs. All done in warm
earth tones with a splash of brighter color here and there for
an “Art in Motion” effect.
A
destination in and of itself, Hotel Palomar, a Kimpton Hotel,
positions itself as the city’s first and only luxury urban
resort. It is located in the Park Cities neighborhood near
downtown Dallas. Health, Fun, Earth, and Discovery are the
focus its four Signature Meetings packages with elements ranging
from massages to plantable paper, hula hoops to paint-by-number
sets.
The Palomar Basics:
Rooms: 198 guestrooms and upscale
Dallas suites in a nine-story structure
Restaurants: Central 214, featuring regional American
cuisine, and the original Trader Vic's, the Polynesian hot spot
and creator of famous libations like the Mai Tai, plus a chic
lounge off the lobby.
Exhale Spa: 10,000 square foot space that provides the
spa, yoga, Core Fusion® toning classes, fitness, pool and
wellbeing services
24-hour services: room service, business center, and
fitness facility
Pool: Infinity-edged pool with private casitas for
dining, drinks or massage
Meeting space: 9,000 square feet of meeting space located
on the second floor. Flexible room arrangements to host
occasions for as few as 12 people in one of three meeting rooms,
or as many as 1,000 for a reception in the ballroom, which can
be divided into four separate spaces, the largest accommodating
up to 200 seated guests. The meeting space is state of the art
with all of the high tech bells and whistles, and with a good
layout.
Location: Just five minutes north of Downtown Dallas. The
drive time is about the same from DFW to Hotel Palomar as it
would be from DFW to the Adolphus in downtown. Directly across
the street from the hotel, within walking distance, is an area
called Mockingbird Station which has restaurants like RockFish,
a great Sushi place, ice cream place, Starbuck’s, retail shops
including Ann Taylor Loft, Gap, Victoria’s Secret and some
boutiques; and the Angelika movie theatre. |
