Hot News on Hip Spots in the East

New meeting places. New hotels. New dining experiences. More excitement. DMCs up and down the East Coast are reporting the latest from their towns on places you’ll want to put on your short list for a future event.

NEW YORK CITY: Fourth largest convention center and more…

The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is completing a state-of-the-art addition which will move it from 18th to 4th largest convention center in the U.S.A. Grand total of space: 1.3 million square feet. It will include a 1,500-room hotel. Estimated completion date: 2010.

DMC Empire Force Events also reports that...

  • The Plaza Hotel celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year, and will also celebrate its grand reopening in late fall with 200 renovated rooms and fully refurbished ballrooms for events. Soon guests can once again take tea in the Palm Court and relax in the Oak Bar.
     
  • Stage 6 at Steiner Studios, the largest, most sophisticated movie studio outside of Hollywood, features a new event venue with glass enclosed rooftop in the popular borough of Brooklyn.
     
  • Hudson Yards Catering New York City, operated by Danny Meyer, NYC top restaurateur, offers a demonstration kitchen for events, with celebrity chefs and mixologists. Fun for cooking team-building!
     
  • Dubspot New York City, signs on as NYC’s 1st disc-jockey, video-jockey, electronic music school, located in the cool trendy Meat Packing District. A new innovative event venue, as well as team-building activity!

 

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The highest concentration of celebrities in the Nation’s Capital can now to be found in Madame Tussauds...

Madame Tussauds, the celebrated wax museum, due to open this month, will provide a new tour and off-site event venue in the classy Penn Quarter.

 

DMC GEP Washington also reports that...

  • The Newseum will open in its landmark location on America’s main street, Pennsylvania Avenue, early next year. With exhibits on communication from Ancient Egypt to the Internet, the Newseum promises to be one of the most prominent, entertaining and well-attended museums in Washington. Interactive exhibits can make newscasters out of your guests.
     
  • Gaylord National, a 42-acre resort, opens in 2008, with 2,000 hotel rooms, including 100 luxurious suites, and 470,000 square feet of convention, meeting and exhibit space.
     
  • National Museum of American History will reopen in 2008. This Smithsonian site will boast new architectural enhancements and a state-of-the-art gallery for the Star Spangled Banner.
     
  • The new Nationals Ballpark also opens in 2008, located along the Anacostia River in SE Washington, DC with a spectacular design to compliment the city’s monuments complete with cherry trees beyond the outfield.

 

EASTERN CANADA: North America’s only “Ice Hotel” rises each winter just outside of historic Quebec City, Canada...

Quebec City Ice Hotel.  North America’s only “Ice Hotel” located just outside of historic Quebec City will be bigger and better than ever this winter with over 10,000 sq. ft., 36 theme rooms and suites, and the traditional “ice bar”. What a venue for a real “ice breaker”!
